Curtiss-Wright To Webcast Investor Day Event

CHARLOTTE, N.C.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Curtiss-Wright Corporation (NYSE: CW) announced today that it will host an Investor Day and conduct a live webcast on Thursday, October 6, 2016 to provide a strategic update and an overview of the commercial nuclear power business.

The event will feature presentations by David C. Adams, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, and Glenn E. Tynan, Vice President and Chief Financial Officer. Presentations on the Company’s nuclear end markets will be conducted by the VP/General Managers of the operating divisions. The Company also will provide a tour of its facility in Cheswick, PA showcasing the AP1000 Reactor Coolant Pump (RCP).

As military sub-surface activity in northern European waters reaches heights not seen for more than a generation, one of the main focuses for those attending the UDT conference and exhibition in Oslo next week looks like being towed array capabilities.
 

Curtiss-Wright recently told Shephard that their Defense Solutions’ INDAL business will highlight two of its undersea warfare products at the show; the Submarine Towed Array Handling Systems (STAHS) and the Towed Reelable Active Passive Sonar (TRAPS), the latter in collaboration with GeoSpectrum Technologies.
 
Both systems are expected to be announced as having been selected for separate procurement and development programmes in the near future.
 
The STAHS system features technology that effectively deploys the array without any potentially harmful handling of the sensitive towed array cable. As the handling gear on a submarine is located outside of the ships pressure hull, the need for reliability is crucial as navies look to find methods to deploy and subsequently stow the array.
 
‘Our flushing system has a infuser feature that delivers significant performance improvements and reliably gets the array out at the initial stage of deployment before drag takes over,’ said Andrew Roy, senior business development manager, INDAL.
 
‘This technology has been well-proven on the [Royal Navy’s] Astute-class submarine and INDAL expects to be able to soon announce that STAHS been selected by a leading prime contractor for a next-generation submarine,’ he added, without disclosing any further details.
 
Within Europe a number of countries are looking at a new generation of sub-surface capabilities. Norway have down-selected two companies for their Ula-class SSK replacement programme.

Meanwhile, TRAPS has been designed as a lightweight sonar system for smaller surface vessels and USVs and marketing at emerging and small navies. The reelable design features a vertical active source combined with a passive towed array, all handled on a lightweight winch system, according to company material.

Curtiss-Wright Defense Solutions has introduced a new low-cost, single-operator shipboard helicopter handling system designed to address the size and weight limits of smaller ships

A more compact and lighter variant of the company’s proven Twin Claw Assist (TC-ASIST) handling system, the new Manual Aircraft Straighten and Traverse (MAST) system is track-based and controlled using a chest pack-mounted portable control unit worn by the operator while working alongside the aircraft. This approach eliminates the need for a permanent helicopter handling systems console on a space-constrained ship. The MAST system, which is part of Curtiss-Wright’s INDAL-branded product range, combines design attributes of the proven Italian Navy TC-ASIST (as selected for the Orrizonte/FREMM frigates) with elements from the UK Royal Navy’s MANTIS handler

MAST is landing grid-compatible and safely and securely manoeuvres and traverses a wide range of helicopters, including the Lynx, EH-101 and Dauphin, between the flight deck and the hangar. Enabling helicopter missions in harsh environments, MAST is designed to deliver optimal performance in all weather conditions, day and night, in sea conditions up to sea state 6.

“As naval helicopter deployments increase around the globe, rotor craft are more frequently tasked with landing onboard smaller ships,” said Lynn Bamford, senior vice-president and general manager, Defense Solutions division. “MAST is the first to deliver a low-cost, single-operator solution for securing and traversing helicopters on space constrained smaller vessels,” she claimed.

Speaking to Warship Technology, Don McKay, the company’s director of sales and marketing, said there was a noticeable trend towards the procurement of smaller surface combatants and towards equipping smaller units with a helicopter handling capability. “Whereas TC-ASIST is a twin track system, MAST is a single track unit, with which we have combined a lot of the functionality of MANTIS. This means we can meet the needs of handling systems for smaller vessels at an attractive price point but provide the same level of security to users. With the ASIST and TC-ASSIST at the upper end of our range and MANTIS, our traversing system, we feel that with MAST we can provide coverage across the entire range of helicopter handling systems.” The US Navy is understood to favour ASIST for the DDG 1000 and Flight 3 DDG 51 destroyers. The company is under contract to provide ASIST to the Royal Canadian Navy’s Joint Support Ship programme. ASIST is also understood to be the preferred choice for the Royal Australian Navy’s Air Warfare Destroyer. A version of MANTIS was selected for the US Navy’s Littoral Combat Ship.......

CHARLOTTE, N.C., Jan. 05, 2016 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Curtiss-Wright Corporation (NYSE:CW) today announced that it has been awarded contracts valued in excess of $450 million, with a total potential value of approximately $500 million including incentives, by Harbin Electric Power Equipment Company, Ltd. and Shenyang Blower Works Nuclear Pump Company, Ltd. primarily to provide AP1000® plant reactor coolant pumps (RCP) for Generation III+ commercial nuclear power plants.  Curtiss-Wright will provide a total of sixteen reactor coolant pumps supporting various AP1000 plant sites in China.  The shipment of RCPs linked to these contracts is not expected to begin until 2019.

Previous 2007 China Award

Under a prior contract received in 2007, Curtiss-Wright is producing a total of sixteen RCPs for two AP1000 nuclear plants currently under construction in China, which include Sanmen Units 1 and 2 in Zhejiang Province and Haiyang Units 1 and 2 in Shandong Province.  In November, the Company successfully completed the shipment of the first pair of AP1000 RCPs for Sanmen Unit 1 in China, the world’s first AP1000 nuclear power plant, and recently completed the shipment of the second pair of RCPs for Sanmen Unit 1. Curtiss-Wright expects to ship the remaining twelve RCPs under this original China contract during 2016. The RCPs circulate coolant water throughout the reactor and represent one of the most critical components in the plant design. They are the largest canned motor pumps ever designed and manufactured by Curtiss-Wright.

CHARLOTTE, N.C., Nov. 19, 2015 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Curtiss-Wright Corporation (NYSE:CW) today announced that it successfully completed the shipment of the first pair of AP1000® reactor coolant pumps (RCPs) for Sanmen Unit 1 in China, the world's first AP1000 nuclear power plant. The two RCPs are expected to be on-site in December 2015, in support of key project milestones. The Company also expects to complete production and shipment of the remaining two RCPs for Sanmen Unit 1 by year end.

Under prior contracts received in 2007 and 2008 for plant sites in China and the United States, respectively, Curtiss-Wright is producing a total of thirty-two RCPs for four AP1000 nuclear plants currently under construction, which include the Sanmen site in Zhejiang Province, China; the Haiyang site in Shandong Province, China; the Southern Nuclear Vogtle site in Georgia; and the SCANA V.C. Summer site in South Carolina.  The shipment of these thirty-two RCPs, which began this month, is expected to continue through 2017. Although a key program milestone, the shipment of RCPs will not be a significant contributor to revenue and profitability, as revenue recognition is based on the percentage of completion method of accounting, which is principally linked to production. 

In October, the Company announced that it had successfully completed extensive China regulator reviews and detailed post-test inspections. As a result, the review confirmed that the RCP performed as required during the final performance testing and reached full qualification. The RCP performance met the design requirements which are necessary to support safe and reliable AP1000 plant operation.

CHARLOTTE, N.C., Oct. 28, 2015 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Curtiss-Wright Corporation (NYSE:CW), Westinghouse Electric Company and State Nuclear Power Technology Corporation (SNPTC) of China today announced the successful completion of final performance testing and post-test inspections of the lead AP1000® plant reactor coolant pump (RCP). Throughout the testing, the RCP performance met the design requirements which are necessary to support safe and reliable AP1000 plant operation.

The achievement will result in the shipment of the first and second Sanmen Unit 1 RCPs for arrival on site by December 31, 2015, to support key upcoming project milestones at Sanmen Unit 1, the world's first AP1000 plant. Successful test completion also will lead to fabrication and delivery of the remaining two RCPs for Sanmen Unit 1, and RCPs for the seven additional AP1000 reactors currently under construction in China and the United States, which include a second reactor at Sanmen; two at the Haiyang site in Shandong Province, China; two at Southern Nuclear's Vogtle site in Georgia; and two at the SCANA V.C. Summer site in South Carolina.

The final performance testing has verified successful RCP operation during a full range of AP1000 plant operating conditions for more than 1,600 total hours, including more than 600 start-and-stop cycles. Extensive China regulator reviews and detailed post-test inspections are now complete and confirmed that the RCP performed as designed during the final performance testing. Curtiss-Wright conducted the testing and inspection at its Electro-Mechanical Division (EMD) facility in Cheswick, Pennsylvania (USA).

About the MAST

Once the INDAL MAST system has fully engaged it provides the helicopter with total security from toppling or sliding. After landing, the system secures the helicopter via a simple interface with the helicopter Main Landing Gear. INDAL MAST enables re-centering and alignment of the helicopter with the track axis and traversing the helicopter between the flight deck landing spot and the hangar. Additionally, the system can be used to easily position the helicopter to optimize alignment for external stores loading.

Curtiss-Wright Awarded $480 Million In Contracts For Virginia Class Submarine Program

CHARLOTTE, N.C., June 15, 2015 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Curtiss-Wright Corporation (NYSE:CW) announced today that it has been awarded contracts valued at over $480 million when fully funded to supply pumps, valves, generators and propulsors for the U.S. Navy's Block IV Virginia Class Submarine Program. The Navy's Block IV contracts cover 10 submarines, two per year from fiscal years 2014 through 2018. Thus far, more than $330 million of funding has been allotted to these contracts, with the remaining funding to be provided incrementally. The Curtiss-Wright Electro-Mechanical Systems (EMS) Division facilities in Cheswick, PA and Bethlehem, PA and the Curtiss-Wright Industrial Division facility in East Farmingdale, New York are performing the work under these contracts. Engineering and manufacturing has commenced and will continue through 2019.
